AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

Presentation

The aim of an after school activity is to foster the flourishing of the child and their independence outside school hours, with enjoyment as the priority.

After school activities are aimed at:

• At the Thao Dien site, for kindergarten children (ages 3 to 6)
• At the Binh Thanh site, for kindergarten children (ages 3 to 6) and elementary school children (ages 6 to 11)
• To children enrolled in other schools.

The activities are adapted to the age of the children. They are led by professionals, kindergarten assistants or enthusiasts.

They are not considered club activities.

Each day the children have a choice between a sporting, artistic, language learning or study activity (only for elementary classes).

Activities are offered in French, English or Vietnamese.

An after school activity should be enjoyable for the child. There is no question of pushing a child towards an activity that does not appeal to them.

Similarly, competition is only beneficial if the child wants it themselves! So we do not demand results from them as we would for school: we support them, encourage them and guide them; our role ends there.

Parents will need to encourage their children, support them, be present in the beginning to motivate them, and over time, they will be able to see the progress made by their children.

Every child will find the activity that suits them best; there is no one activity that is better than another, it all depends on the child's wishes and character, but all have significant benefits.

Thao Dien Kindergarten Schedule

Language policy

In the general operation of after school activities, communication with the instructors takes place in French, English and Vietnamese. The dominant language remains French.

Language learning:

We offer modern language courses for children who wish to learn to speak a new language or who want to improve their skills:

• Advanced English

These courses are accessible from First Year of kindergarten, to beginners and advanced students.

• French as a Foreign Language (FLE).

An activity designed for non-French-speaking children who wish to discover the basics of French, acquire new vocabulary and improve until they become fully bilingual and follow a French curriculum.

In each lesson, the instructor offers fun activities, according to the child's level, using different media (books, videos, songs, drawings, theater, etc.) allowing the child to express themselves naturally in that language.

Depending on each person's level, the instructor creates working/game groups in order to adapt the activities.

FAQ

Who are these activities aimed at?

These activities are aimed at all children enrolled at French International School Boule & Billes as well as children attending other schools, from First Year of kindergarten (3 years old) to Grade 5 (11 years old).

Are these the same activities for all children, regardless of their level?

Some activities are reserved for kindergarten students, such as Vovinam, climbing or KinderMusik for example, others are for elementary school students, such as Karting, tennis, etc. Activities such as swimming, advanced English or drawing are open to all but we organize several sessions per level. All this information is detailed on the activity description sheet.

Can my child participate in activities occasionally?

Registration is by term, however it is possible to register your child for one or more activities on an ad hoc basis, subject to availability.

Is there a maximum number of participants for each activity?

Activities are limited to a maximum of 12 children.

Is it possible to change activities?

Registration is done on a term basis; however, it is possible to change activities if the current one is not suitable for your child, subject to availability in the new activity.

Is the price the same for all activities?

We charge an additional fee for certain activities that incur costs (field rental, equipment, etc.).

Activities with additional charges include Tennis, Golf, Judo, Chess, STEM, etc.

What do you do if it rains and we can't do the activity?

We have a protocol in case of rain or heavy pollution: in this case, the activities planned outside are replaced by other activities.

Do some activities require annual registration?

No, registrations are done by term; at the beginning of each term you can either continue the activity or change it.

Do certain activities require specific attire?

Indeed, all sporting activities require appropriate clothing, such as sportswear, sneakers, etc.

Regarding Judo and Vovinam, after a first trial session, we offer parents the opportunity to purchase a kimono at a preferential rate through our instructors.

For swimming, your child will need to bring their swimsuit.

In case of an accident, is my child covered by the school's insurance?

For Boule & Billes pupils, yes. Children from other schools need to provide proof of insurance at registration.
